Surviving Spring Part 2 - Exercise

In Part 1 of our Surviving Spring blog series we talked about our liver meridian being responsible for the smooth flow of energy in the body, and how it’s paired organ the gallbladder controls the muscles and tendons. This translates to our bodies feeling relaxed and flexible when these meridians are in balance. However when in disharmony, we’re left with tense muscles, particularly in the upper neck and shoulder region.

The solution is what I frequently refer to as “the simplest/hardest fix” - increasing movement. Simple because it’s free, hardest because there is often a lot of resistance to adding it into our daily lives. Ironically this is further complicated by the liver/gallbladder being responsible for the clear planning and execution of goals. When energy gets stuck in these two meridians, it can leave us trapped in a loop of needing to exercise but not knowing how to start. Here are some simple ways to add more movement into the day:

  • Don’t overthink it - Even a 5-10 minute walk can jumpstart your Qi

  • For those who are already exercising - Stretch. Your gallbladder meridian will thank you

  • Do you have a desk job? Remember to roll your shoulders back and move frequently, even if it’s in your chair.

  • Deep breathing - this one is simple enough to add to pretty much any task, any time of day

Movement is truly the easiest way to deal with pain and tension in the body. If you find yourself stuck and not knowing how to begin, consider calling the office to schedule a wellness coaching session. We can talk over what your specific blocks are and come up with a plan to overcome them.
