Beyond the Fog: Clear Dampness, Boost Energy with TCM

Okay rapid fire acupuncture theory class -

Illness is caused by pathogens. These pathogens are based on weather, because acupuncture is VERY old ( as in 5,000ish years old) and people spent a lot of time back then thinking about weather - mostly because they didn’t have central heating.

Which brings me to the pathogen Dampness.

Damp is, well, kind of miserable.

It’s characterized by

  • Fatigue and sluggishness

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Bloating and digestive issues

  • Aches and pains

  • Feeling foggy or cloudy-headed

  • Excessive phlegm production

  • Skin issues like eczema or acne

And how do we get rid of Dampness?

Acupuncture and Chinese herbs are amazing at clearing up Dampness, but the power to banish it starts with the choices you make at home – especially with your diet.

Changes such as:

  • Spice it up: Add warming spices like ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper to your meals. These naturally increase your internal warmth, helping to dispel Dampness.

  • Choose cooked over raw: Especially when it's chilly out, cooked foods are easier to digest. Stews, roasted vegetables, and soups are excellent choices, warming you up and making your body's job a lot simpler.

  • Ditch the greasy: Limit fried and overly processed foods. They clog your digestion, contributing to a feeling of heaviness (and more Dampness).

  • Hydrate with intention: Iced drinks are tempting, but opt for room temperature or warm water and herbal teas to support your body's fight against Dampness.

Remember - small shifts can have a big impact!

Acupuncture is all about balance. Don't feel like you need to execute this perfectly – you'll be surprised at what a little bit of change can accomplish!
