Can Acupuncture Help Anxiety?

Acupuncture helps people feel calm. It’s one of my favorite “side effects” of treatment. Often a patient will come in for something like a sore knee and after a few treatments ask if the acupuncture is helping them relax as they’re suddenly sleeping better at night. The answer is yes. Acupuncture is fantastic at relieving stress and anxiety.

Sometimes people aren’t even aware they’re experiencing anxiety. We tend to associate anxiety with big symptoms such as extreme nervousness and panic attacks. Many people experience far milder symptoms. The more common ones I see are:

  • Fatigue

  • Stomach Upset

  • Tense neck & shoulders

  • Irritability/easily frustrated

  • Trouble concentrating

  • Difficulty sleeping through the night

Symptoms almost always start as a gentle knock on the door. That’s the best time to pay attention to the problem and deal with it. Whatever the problem is, ignoring it will just increase the gentle knock to louder banging and that’s when symptoms start to increase in severity. Life can be stressful, come in for a needle nap and reset your system to calm.
