Ditch The Guilt

I know someone who puts up eight perfect trees each December.

Eight.

I used to see her perfectly decorated house on social media and feel like I was falling apart. Back then, I was fully immersed in the compare and despair game, and it wasn't a pretty sight.

Which is why I want to remind everyone what they probably already know, that social media isn’t real. Those sparkling houses and glamorous events don’t show the full picture—the stress, the mess, the behind-closed-doors chaos.

And, because I’m a fan of offering solutions, here are a few tips to let go the guilt this holiday season:

1. Remember, social media is not reality. Social media is a curated highlight reel, showcasing only the best moments of people's lives. Don't compare your reality to someone else's carefully crafted online persona.

2. Focus on your own traditions and values. What makes your family's holiday experience special? Focus on creating traditions that are meaningful and enjoyable for you and your loved ones, not what you think you should be doing.

3. Embrace the imperfections. Remember, perfection is an illusion. Embrace the quirks and mishaps that make your holidays unique and memorable.

4. Be Kind to Yourself. Next time you feel that twinge of guilt or the urge to measure up to someone else's holiday highlight, take a breath and remind yourself: you're doing great just as you are.

So here’s to saying no to guilt, comparison, and unrealistic expectations. Embrace what brings you joy, celebrate the small victories, and make this holiday season your own.

Cheers to being beautifully, authentically you.
