Cozy Up to Power Up: 7 Easy Ways to Boost Your Energy This Winter

Okay, we’ve talked about why you should rest more & what’s at stake when you don’t, and today I’m going to teach you other ways to help keep your battery charged this winter.

Nourish with root vegetables: Think carrots, sweet potatoes & squashes - these are foods that traditionally would be eaten this time of year as they would store throughout the winter. They strengthen your core energy (which is the Kidney).

Keep the Kidneys Cozy: The Kidneys do not like cold, particularly in the low back area. Make sure your shirt fully covers the low back when you bend over. This keeps the area protected and warm. While you're at it, throw on a pair of cozy socks. The Kidney meridian extends to the soles of your feet and this helps keep it strong.

Say No to Cold and Raw Foods: Winter isn't the ideal season for fasting, cleansing, or embracing raw food diets. These approaches drain your reserve energy, offering short-term vitality but leading to long-term depletion.

Keep the Low Back Warm: This area houses important acupuncture points that jumpstart your immune system and support your Kidney energy. Apply a heating pad if you’re feeling achy or sensing a sneaky cold coming your way. It often can prevent a full blown sickness from arriving. This region is so important that it has the name Ming Men which translates to Gate of Life.

Rest when you’re tired: Okay? Just try to get a little extra sleep. Bonus points if you go to bed before midnight.

Stretch a bit each day: Even better - stomp your feet for a few minutes each day. This is basically a form of Acupressure you can do at home to stimulate the energy in the Kidney meridian. Plus, it’s a good excuse to stomp around.

Lastly, get Acupuncture: This is the perfect time of year to come in for a tune-up. It’ll allow you to enter Spring in balance, instead of tired and grumpy (which we’ll talk about come March).
