Resolve Differently

What if we achieved our goals from a place of curiosity?

Where we approached it as a way to stretch our possibilities, instead of changing something “wrong” about ourselves.

You know all that “New year - New you” marketing you see this time of year? It always saddens me because it’s built on the premise that there’s something wrong with the current you.

And I know, it’s supposed to motivate us to get stuff done like lose weight, run a marathon or write a novel… I get it. It’s fun to have goals. But wouldn’t it be nice to have a goal and still feel good about ourselves as we’re trying to achieve it?

This is usually about the time when I hear “Okay but I get better results when I kick my butt into gear by being realistic about how fat I am” (I’m going to be honest, it’s usually about weight that I hear this).

That’s possible. You may get some success in the short term doing it that way. But will you be happy doing it? Will the process be fun?

Be really honest with yourself about that. You may feel the excitement of having a smaller waistline for a short time, but just like the giddiness of a new romance that thrill fades.

Why? Because the motivation came from being an A-hole to yourself.

Do you want to learn a way to achieve your goals that is enjoyable?

A way that teaches you how to strive for something from a place of curiosity instead of criticism?

So that you don’t give up on yourself by early February?
